Newlinda Tenjiku -Part 1-
The material that represents Fil Melange,
"New Linda Tenjiku" series.
All items will be renewed and re-released from Spring/Summer 2013.
Before we get into the details of the renewal,
What kind of material is [New Linda Jersey]?
I would like to talk about it step by step.
〇Raw materials
The raw material used is [GIZA] cotton.
Not Gima but Giza.
(See Gima here )
This cotton was developed and grown in the Giza region of Egypt, famous for the pyramids and the Sphinx.
Its distinctive feature is its long fibre length.
It also contains a moderate amount of oil, which gives it a silky smoothness when spun.
The product number will be GIZA XX, with the development number in the XX part.
This is a secret.
As an aside, at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi Hills, which is close to our store,
The "Ancient Egypt" Exhibition is currently underway.
It was also amazing to see the collection held at the Brooklyn Museum.
Why not stop by and check it out while you're in the store?
Until April 6th.

Spinning
Even if you twist the plant in its original form (called a cotton ball), it cannot be made into thread.
The cotton is pressed into the veil for transport and is tightly closed.
Remove any debris such as leaves and stems
Put it through a machine to loosen it up.
After this, the cotton that has been stretched into a thin sheet is bundled together to form a rope.
This is called a sliver.
These slivers are then bundled together.
Stretch it to the target size (thickness),
Eventually it will become thread.
Needless to say, the finer details, such as the number of threads and the number of twists, are not disclosed and are a secret.
Also, white and navy can be dyed from the raw cotton,
The color of the heathered gray is decided when the yarn is made,
Carefully made with our own unique blend,
We ask them to make the threads in a very bold way.
The OLD MELANGE heathered grey color of New Linda Jersey is
It's a special colour that realised our ideal: a light base and a dark grey grain.
〇Fabric
The thread made in Osaka is transported to the neighboring city of Wakayama,
It is then hung on the knitting machine.
All of the new Linda Tenjiku items are round-bodied...
In other words, it has no side seams.
This means that I have to knit a separate one for each size.
It's hard for us to manage it, but it's even harder to make it.
The threads are threaded and removed from the machines for each size...
As I continued knitting, if the thread broke I went and looked after it.
This is a time-consuming, space-consuming and labor-intensive process.
(The ribbing on the collar and wrists is done on a separate machine.)
It is rare for a factory to have knitting machines of each size.
With a special request,
And to make the grain of the fabric stand out,
We have manufactured and are operating machines that have been modified to produce fabrics that look great.
Because it has become long,
To be continued...
