23 Autumn/Winter new material, VINTAGE UNEVEN DYED SWEAT/Vintage uneven dyed fleece. I visited a knitting factory in Wakayama where I was asked to knit the fabric.
Wakayama is the production area of circular knitwear that boasts the largest market share in Japan, and has been home to many long-established knitters for over 100 years since the Meiji era. It continues to evolve every day.
Many of the fabrics used in Filmélanger products are also knitted in Wakayama.
Each knitting factory has its own characteristics, and the knitting machines they use vary from the latest to the old.
This material uses an old vintage knitting machine in order to reproduce the unique texture found in second-hand sweatshirts from the USA. 
The knitting machine used is one of the early knitting machines from around the 1970s, when the loop knitting machine was replaced by a high-speed knitting machine, and it is a rare and valuable knitting machine with only a few in existence.
The knitting speed is very slow and you can only knit 1 to 2 turns a day,
Therefore, it is characterized by a soft and puffy texture.
This knitting machine is highly valued because its texture is more important than its production volume.
It also has excellent elasticity, so the more you wear it, the more it will fit your body.
It continues to be in operation thanks to careful daily maintenance carried out by experienced craftsmen. 
It is said that less than 1% of the fabrics used in clothing currently distributed in Japan are made in Japan.
